Start small, stay narrow

Five simple rules, and the habit of breaking all of them.

Over the past three or four years, I have made a lot of mistakes. Basic mistakes. And the worst part is that I am still making them today. Simple rules to follow:

  1. Start small.
  2. Stay focused and narrow.
  3. Speed is your friend.
  4. Go public to your ideal customer.
  5. Get their feedback, and iterate.

There is nothing about perfection here. Instead, I have created a mess of a mesh. This has been pointed out to me. Well, I can see it for myself. However, the output is too valuable in this case: Maiaen is a crown jewel, if it works. My fallacy is that, given the stage I am in, I am still making the same mistakes.

Daily releases should be the ideal scenario, but a more balanced approach would be weekly. Also, I was very late to give up on doing everything myself. Delegating work to AI should have been the case two months back. Thankfully, Maiaen got priority in August and got the first release out in two weeks. But then I repeated my mistake, and release two took four weeks. Other projects have taken months longer than they should have.

Being able to think over a good knowledge base doesn't help. Sometimes being simple and straightforward helps. The focus must now be on setting up executable systems within one to two weeks, and capturing what remains of a market that is becoming highly saturated. Luckily, the pieces are already there. I need to think straight, get to the drawing board, and make them work, despite them being clunky, buggy and what not. Spending some extra money won't be a bad idea.
