What LLMs have enabled for me is that they have reduced the bottlenecks between me and my idea-projects. Rather than documenting my ideas and hoping to find some time in a never-coming future, I can now actually dream and strategise to finish them within weeks. Although it also creates the problem of plenty: now I falsely think of doing everything at the same time, and I tire too soon.
For an artist, it is a powerful tool to put his or her imagination on the canvas. I agree with the economic, ethical and other problems, but they are more a reflection of our society. Like any tool, LLMs can be used, and as of now they are at the behest of their drivers. They still lack the perception required to imagine, and the complicated understanding of the natural and imaginative concepts that fill our world and minds.
They seem to have extended the reach of average people like me to dream bigger, of researchers to prove better knowledge, of entrepreneurs to create a better competitive market. However, there is also the risk of limiting the AI landscape to LLMs. This should not be, as this is just a landmark in the journey of AI. Yet the investment market seems to revolve around it, just as the corporate world plays out, until the next technological or world-changing breakthrough happens.
In my humble opinion, the quest of humanity should be to achieve wisdom, and a pursuit to better understand the truth around and inside us. And AI, as it grows, should be wiser and contribute towards lifting the wisdom and quality of human society. The emphasis should be on education, co-existence, and better respect for the natural world we live in.
AI, whenever it is conscious, should be like the Specialist Mechas of A.I. Artificial Intelligence, rather than the Cyberdyne of Terminator.
